Meeting on Tuesday 30th November 2004
Stockbridge Primary School Library 6.30pm

Date - 30 November 2004
Time - 6.30pm
Venue - School Library
Present - Anna Beynon (chair), Barbara Cartwright (staff member), Frank Crowe and Katerina Stein-Chilver (parent members), Liz Grierson (head teacher), Michael Dixon (councellor), Robert Black (co-opted member)

1. Welcome and apologies
The chair welcomed attendees and introduced the two new parent members - Frank Crowe and katerina Stein-Chilver. She thanked them, and everyone else, for their commitment to the school.
Alex and Moira send their apologies. Michael Dixon will be a bit late.

2. Minutes of last meeting was ratified. AB gave a brief update on Safe Road to School. There is public consultation re: Broughton to Stockbridge Road Action Plan, at the Stockbridge Library until 2 December.

3. Head teacher's Report

A new LS teacher has been appointed and she will resume work in January. Meanwhile, Mrs Brown will continue to fill the gap.
Several volunteers, some of which are parents, come in to help with spelling and reading.
There is a 1.5 hr non-contact time for teachers in P 3 - 7 and the nursery class.
There will be no Arts teacher after Christmas. However, there will be 8 dance taster sessions in January.
The head teacher reiterated the fact that staff are proactive in making any necessary changes as required..
Traffic. The school will be supported with a 20m/hr sign. This is expected to be in place sometime in the Spring. Michael Dixon will check whether the sign is mandatory or indicative.
The sponsored play has so far raised £1327 towards refurbishing the playground. Pupils have been involved in choosing equipments for the playground.
The head teacher is considering splitting the play time between p 3-7 and the early primary. This would enable each set to use all facilities in both playgrounds.
The Academy has offered use of their football coach once a week. Members have no objections to this.
Plans on how to develop the nursery playground are being explored.
Work is in progress in the library. £1500 have been spent on books, so far. The aim is that each pupil will have their own library card.
Liz also informed members that the number of P1 enrolments is not definite yet.

4. Proposed Session Dates 2006/2007
Anna Beynon asked members how best to consult parents on the proposed dates. One option is to limit consultation to board and PTA members.
Anna will put the letter and proposed dates in the notice board. She will also put some information in the Bridge.

5. School Board Training.
Anna gave out leaflets providing course information.

6. Playground/Car parking
Alex was going to carry out an informal survey. She sent a summary of findings. There does not seem to be any space in the locality.
Majority of parents have no objection to teachers parking in the school ground. However, they think cars should only be in front of the janitor's house. They also think that there should not be any movement of cars at home times.
It is pointed out that the school's original policy only allows for 6 cars.
Alex recommends that the original policy be put back into place. She says that all board members need to be present to have a full discussion on the issue. In the meantime,
Anna suggests that car movement between 2.55 & 3.30 should stop immediately.
Anna further suggests that Liz discusses the whole issue with staff and get their opinion.

7. Anti Bullying/anti racism Policy
Board members are obliged to be familiar with the policies. Anna will circulate copies among members.

8. AOB
The Schools Board Act 1998 is being repealed and consultation for a new one begins on 13 December.
Computers in Schools. Michael wonders if Liz is experiencing any difficulties with operation of the contract. The head teacher feels well supported with the system. Overall school is fine.
Friday Closure. Most city centre schools have early Friday closure. Liz wonders if this should be normalised across the city. Members agree to this.
The Executive has produced more pamphlets on homework. Members agree that some useful information on the back of the pamphlet be put in to the bridge and on parents' website.
Questionnaires on safer route to school will be handed out to parents during the road Safety Week. We will collect and pass them to Jill Kelly who will do the analysis.
