Venue - School Library

DRAFT MINUTES
1. Welcome
Anna Benyon , the chair, welcomed Liz Grierson and all present. Anna also introduced Tomi Folorunso as the new clerk replacing Susan MacInnes.
2. Apologies: Elaine Moran.
3. Minutes From Last Meeting
Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
More time will be given parents in the future to register interest in becoming parent members of the board. Possibility of putting information in the bridge was discussed. This will enable as much as possible of the information going to parents and guardians to be compact.
4. School Grounds
Safety and security are the main issues. The area under the tree is still unfinished and workmen will be contacted regarding this.
Parents are urged to form 'working parties' to help with the job of maintaining the garden.
5. Maintenance
Some floor boards in the hall are wobbly. There seem to be problems with humidity, too. The problems do not appear to be major but precautions are being taken for now. The plan is to get things fixed as soon as possible.
Gutters will be cleaned. Window-cleaning, too, is being looked into. Hopefully they'll be done during the October break.
Some classroom windows do not open, causing ventilation problems. LG has asked the janitor to check the windows so that we know how many, and which ones do not open at all. The legal implications of this need to be examined.
6. Security
LG mentioned the two incidents of intruders during the last session. The issue need to be revisited in order to prevent a recurrence.
Parents should report to the office when they come to the school for any reason. Phones are in every classroom now so, teachers can be more easily contacted. As well as for security, there will be less chance of disruptions to class routines.
Workmen and other officials will wear a 'visitor' badge, and so will parent helpers.
The school have just installed new phones, which staff are trying to get used to. Apologies for any resulting inconvenience.
7. School Meals
New style lunches were introduced at start of this session. Parents are urged to give feedbacks.
8. Staffing
The year started with a shortage in nursery staff. Even with the temporary learning assistant we are still about 0.5 staff short.
The post has been advertised and interviews are scheduled for the 16th of September.
Mrs Cox's continued absence was discussed at length. Members were concerned at the instability this continues to cause to pupils' learning. LG is scheduled to meet with Alistair McIntosh on 25 August and the issue will be discussed.
Anna will hopefully get to meet with Alistair for a discussion of the same issue.
9. Any Other Business
The head teacher reassures members that pupils have settled in okay. She is exploring ways of addressing the issue of late comers, though.
New prefects were sworn in and they had performed their first duties (with the younger ones) already!
10. Date Of Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for 12 October. However, in view of item 8, above, the board agreed to have an interim meeting on 7 September, at 7.00pm.
