PTA ANNUAL REPORT 2001 - 2002

This is a transcript of the Report which was delivered to the PTA AGM on Tuesday 11 June 2002.

The purpose of this brief report is to let you know the present state of the P.T.A. Committee ,and to ask you to approve the Committee as it stands . It's also to keep you informed of any changes we might hope to make in the way we operate in future.

I'm going to start by detailing the changes which have taken place in P.T.A. membership throughout the year, beginning with members who have left.

During the course of the last school year, the following members resigned from the committee: Marc Lambert, Tomi Folorunso Denise McNulty and Caron Stoker. We thank them all for their efforts on behalf of the school.

In the course of the year, the following people joined the P.T.A: Diana Perriman (Mother of Suzy, P.1) ,Marie McKenzie (Adam, P2),Sally Hobson (Finn, P6) Emilia Knight (Mother of Scott P3 and Phillipa P1) and Graham Bodenham (Maximilian,P4).The Committee now comprises them in addition to Bruce Gow. Office bearers are Jeannette Veitch, Secretary ,and Marie-Agnes Lecuirot, Treasurer.

Two staff members, Barbara Cartwright and Mae Cook, finished their stint with us this year, and we thank them for their support. In their place on the Committee we welcome Bernadette McLaughlin and Sally Marshall. Our Head Teacher, Jacqui Horsburgh and Senior Teacher Faith Turner are the other two staff members on the Committee.

I, as Chair, am the only person standing down from the Committee. Obviously, the post of Chair is now vacant, and will be subject to a vote at the first joint P.T.A./Board meeting of the new session on August 28th.
This, then, is the Committee we are asking you to approve tonight. So, could we please have a proposer and seconder to approve the Committee and we can then put it to a show of hands. (FORMAL APPROVAL OF COMMITTEE).

We have one change to put before you. Rather than preparing our accounts in April, we would like to wait until June, so that they can be prepared and approved in time for the A.G.M. This seems to make more sense, because we can include Summer Fair profits in our total.

John Burton and myself have initiated an experiment this year whereby some P.T.A. and Board meetings will be held jointly. We thought this might cut down on "overlap" and allow us to discuss together issues which come before both the Board and the P.T.A. Nothing is set in stone, and the arrangement is an experimental one but it's important to stay flexible and try new approaches.

You may also be aware that myself and John Burton have tried to address the wish of many parents for a forum which they can approach if they wish to discuss specific issues relating to the school. We have come up with a plan whereby a Parents Forum is incorporated into joint P.T.A./Board meetings. There will be two such meetings, plus a further joint meeting given over to discussion of issues raised. John will probably want to go over this in more detail.

Other things to report-After School Activities are still very successful, and we would urge you all to keep supporting them. We had a wonderful Summer Fair this year, and I would like to thank all of you who came and worked so hard. The food stalls in particular were excellent, and people have obviously made a point of lunching at the Fair, which is wonderful for the atmosphere on the day, and good for our profits. I have it on good authority that the best Samosas in Britain are to be found at Stockbridge Primary Summer Fair.
On a personal note, I should like to thank the members of the Committee who have been so helpful to me during my two years as Chair; I have made some super friendships, and I'm grateful to them all for their unstinting work in support of the school. I wish the next incumbent well.

Joanna Franceschi (Chair), June 2002
