PARENT TEACHER
ASSOCIATION
The
PTA is open to all parents and staff at school. A Committee is elected each year
to carry out the business of the PTA. You are welcome to attend PTA meetings -
you don’t have to be on the Committee. Details of meeting
dates are also posted on the
School noticeboards and in regular newsletters.
The PTA organises a range of activities and events, and provides a forum for discussing any matters relating to the school. Over the past year we’ve been involved in fundraising activities such as the Summer Fair, running social events including discos, ceilidh, beetle drive, bingo, after school activities and the school uniform exchange, and in welcoming new parents to the school. The PTA's next event will be:

Regular
newsletters are produced to inform parents and encourage them to become involved
in the widest possible range of aspects of school life. If you fancy getting
involved or want to make any sort of contribution please do not hold back! We
need you and you will be sure of a friendly reception.
Parents wishing to contact the PTA can use the PTA / Board mailbox at the main entrance or email Claire Breau (Chair) at stockbridgepta@yahoo.co.uk
The PTA organises a range of activities for pupils after school. This term these will include dance, chess and art. Without your children's participation and your support, all activities are at risk. Thank you for signing up and returning this form promptly. Coming soon we hope to offer Volleyball and Basketball.
We are always looking for new clubs and new club leaders. Club leaders are paid but the PTA run it as a non-profit service. To check for prices and places or if you have an interest or skill you would like to share, please get in touch with After School Activities Coordinator: Pauline Hopkins - phopkins9597@hotmail.com
A number of sub-groups have been set up to examine areas of particular interest to parents and these can include additional members from the PTA, parents, community and other interested parties who want to get involved:
SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
This group’s objectives this year are to campaign for safer road crossings around the school, road safety generally and promoting alternatives to traveling to school by car. Click here for further information about Safe Routes To School
LINKS
This
group is building links between parents and the school and the wider community.
It is hoped to revive “Railings” our school magazine which won the Scotsman
prize for the best primary magazine in Scotland 1997. It will also be developing
links with business, industry and the community under the topic
"Environmental Studies".

PARENTS' RESOURCES:
There
are external NOTICEBOARDS at both East and West doors to the school. We also use
the noticeboards next to the school office on the ground floor, the staff room,
the Nursery and the one in the
parents’ room. The School, PTA & Board now have a joint newsletter called The
Bridge which will be published two or three times per term, edited by Janene
Reid. The Head Teacher also publishes
several newsletters per term so you shouldn’t be short of information.
The
Parents’ Room is in the school annexe. You are welcome to use it to meet or
wait for your children out of the cold. Feel free to make tea or coffee if you
wish (there are clear notices to keep you right!). We are developing a toy box
for younger children (donations welcome!). This room is also used for PTA coffee
mornings and the school uniform exchange. The Board and PTA are developing this
room as a parents’ information base, where you can have access to a lot of
material which is available about wider issues in education. The Parents' Room
also contains records of all Board and PTA meetings, which parents are welcome
to read. Check it out.
PARENTS' ROOM ONLINE
This web site is a recent venture, organised by parents on the School Board and PTA to try to make useful information accessible to more parents. We know that many parents do not have time to come in to the school. Here you will find booking forms for the After School Activities, current issues, meeting information and more. There is also a very useful Contact page where you can find out how to get in touch with the Board, PTA, Councillors, even your MP or MSP. There are also links to other sites covering Educational Activities, Helplines, Social and Educational Issues and Things to do. Your suggestions are always welcome for other links or ideas to develop this site further. Email Parentsroom
EMAIL CIRCULATION GROUP
If you are interested in joining a parents' opt-in email circulation group, click here for further information. This is not quite a chat room, but could be a useful medium for discussion, news, sharing ideas or improving communication.
GETTING TO
GRIPS WITH IT
ALL
Naturally
we all want to keep track of how our children are doing at school, without
wanting to be a nuisance by constantly asking for “a quick word” with the
class teacher. In fact there are many ways in which an individual child’s
progress and performance are routinely communicated: The school produces
INFORMATION BOOKLETS for parents about the teaching of reading and maths. A
CLASS BOOKLET is issued at the start of each year, which lets parents know the
curriculum their child will cover term by term.
Take this with you to the OPEN EVENING in September (usually 7-8pm). Keep it
handy - you may wish to refer to it later in the year. At the school Open
Evening you will be able to see displays in each class of the materials which
will be used during the year. Plus the class teachers will be on hand to answer
any questions you may have. If your child is having difficulty with something or
is making good progress, the class teacher may send home a “QUICK NOTE” to
keep you informed.
Private
CONSULTATIONS between the class teacher and each child’s parents take place
twice a year in November and May. Ten minutes is allocated per pupil. Make a
note of what you want to ask before you go in. Many of us say we remember things
we should have asked as soon as we leave the room! Before the May consultation
you will get a written REPORT on your child’s progress. It is very clear and
broken down into subjects, eg. language, maths, etc. It will also indicate the
Level of Attainment your child has reached in subjects which are tested. The May
report also includes a RESPONSE SHEET to return. The school welcomes feedback
from parents and encourages them to fill this in.
The
Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and class teacher are all willing to TALK OVER
any concerns you may have, be they large or small. As with the parent
consultations, GET WELL PREPARED - we advise parents to note down all the things
they want to raise. It’s so easy to lose sight of what you were going to say.
The
School produces a HANDBOOK and a PROSPECTUS. Keep these handy. You’ll find
information in them that you may want to look back at after the first few
months.
